Little Optimist and Children\u2019s Hospital Trust ambassador Greg Bertish, with help from sponsors and supporters, gives Hospital a make-over as 60th anniversary gift.<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

The facelift of the iconic 60-year-old Red Cross War Memorial Children\u2019s Hospital will launch on Monday, 23 January. Children\u2019s Hospital Trust ambassador Greg Bertish has rallied the community, drawing in over R94 000 in donations so far as well as sponsors and supporters who have come on board to make this gift a reality.<\/p>\n

Bertish \u2013 a big wave surfer and former South African Stand UP Paddle Board and South African Surf Lifesaving Champion \u2013 holds the Red Cross Children\u2019s Hospital close to his heart. The 46-year-old dad, who has undergone two open heart surgeries, can still relate to the need for a little bit of optimism and a dose of inspiration when it comes to recovering from a life-threatening stay in hospital.<\/p>\n

After embarking on a passionate plea to the public for support, Bertish began working closely with Western Cape Government: Health and Red Cross Children\u2019s Hospital Management to launch the painting project.<\/p>\n

He says, \u201cThe painting of the Hospital will take at least 10 weeks and involves so many more intricacies and processes that I ever could have imagined. However, we\u2019ve had incredible supporters and sponsors step forward as well as very generous donations from the public, which have allowed this dream to become possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The sponsors of the project so far include Alpinist Safety Consultants, Bee Painters, Cancer Dojo, Kansai Plascon, UPAT and Vertical Logic.<\/p>\n

While the Western Cape government regularly maintains the Hospital, this community-driven initiative is the most fitting 60th anniversary gift, ensuring that the thousands of patients who are treated at this world-class Hospital each year have an even more homely and appealing place to stay.<\/p>\n

Funds raised through the Children\u2019s Hospital Trust will go towards purchasing the paint as well as the professional services needed for the project.<\/p>\n

Children\u2019s Hospital Trust CEO, Louise Driver, says, \u201cWe are overwhelmed by the unbelievable generosity of sponsors as well as donors who have contributed financially to this mammoth project. A task such as this one often involves all sorts of unforeseen costs, which is why the support of public is always greatly relied upon.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you would like to contribute to the Hospital\u2019s 60th anniversary gift, 100% of your money will go directly to the purchasing of paint and the professional serviced needed for the project. Not a single cent is spent on administrative costs.<\/p>\n
