Cape Town, you biscuit, you\u2019ve done it again. The Mother City has been named one of the 50 Best Food Cities in the World, sharing the list with other foodies heavyweights like Tokyo and Naples.<\/h2>\n

Global (02 April 2025) \u2014 <\/i>Cape Town is sitting proudly on several \u2018world best\u2019 lists this year already. And, thanks to another global ranking, the Mother City has added yet another achievement to its full plate; this time for a ranking based on something foodies will appreciate to no small degree.<\/p>\n

The 50 Best Food Cities in the World list has been created to let people know which cities to visit if you consider the most important element of a trip to be food.<\/p>\n

The list’s ranking is based on Big 7 Travel\u2019s audience and readership (which spans over 1 million food lovers) who were asked to share their favourite foodie cities. To no one’s surprise, Cape Town made the cut to share the foodie’s royal table with other heavyweights like Tokyo and Naples.<\/p>\n

According to the write-up, “Cape Town is a must-visit destination for any serious foodie.” It goes on to describe much of the food as “political’ and spotlights some South African favourites (like the braai), but also dishes specific to the Cape, like Cape Malay cuisine.<\/p>\n

As for recommendations, Bunny Chow, Bobotie, and the Gatsby were all emphasised!<\/p>\n

“A bubbling, delicious melting pot of cultures and cuisines, Cape Town is a must-visit destination for any serious foodie. Braai <\/em>is one of the first dishes that comes to mind \u2013 it\u2019s barbecue at the next level, with ultra-high quality cuts of meat grilled over charcoal. It\u2019s also a symbol of unity, community, and resistance against the apartheid. Much of Cape Town\u2019s food is political, whether that\u2019s due to colonial history, the slave trade, or apartheid. Cape Malay cuisine is an example of that \u2013 a combination of South African, Indonesian, and Malaysian flavours. Rich, deep curries are seasoned with vibrant spices and ingredients, such as cardamom, ginger, and chilli.” – Big 7 Travel<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
