What began as an idea to create South Africa\u2019s National Flower out of Lego pieces has turned into a whole Fynbos Flowers Lego set thanks to creative Christoff van Wyk. Now, Christoff\u2019s idea has the chance to become an official set!<\/h2>\n

Cape Town, South Africa (22 April 2025) \u2014 <\/i>Cape Town-based Christoff van Wyk recently spent some time bringing a bouquet of South Africa\u2019s natural heritage to life, brick by brick. Now, the Fynbos Flowers Lego builds Christoff created have the chance to become an official set!<\/p>\n

It all started when Christoff became enthralled with the idea of building our National Flower (the Protea) out of lego pieces. After the Protea found its roots in brick form, it wasn’t long until the other flowers followed.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the Fynbos Flowers set are the Bot river Protea, the Splendid Pagoda, the Green Tree Pincushion, Button Bush, Chincherinchee, West Coast wild flowers (Gousblomme) and Erica Blenna.<\/p>\n

The builds are something of a love letter to the West Coast and of course, South Africa’s unique biodiversity.<\/p>\n

\u201cErica Blenna is a distinctive flower from my hometown; I often see Green Tree Pincushions on hikes on Table Mountain; and every spring the West Coast turns into a lush bed of wild flowers,\u201d explains Christoff.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFynbos\u00a0(fine bush)\u00a0is a type of shrubland vegetation found in the Cape Floral Kingdom in South Africa, where I live. There are over 9000 Fynbos species, which deliver some of the most striking flowers in the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Christoff has the chance to make the flowers an official set; which would be beyond cool for South Africans everywhere.<\/p>\n

Per Christoff, 10,000 votes would help the project move higher up onto the toy company’s radar. Those who love the prototype can cast their vote here.<\/a> This is just like the time when SA tried to help get prototypes of Table Mountain and the Bo-Kaap<\/a> built too.<\/p>\n
