We\u2019re cry-laughing: A travel blogger recently attributed South African destinations to the different tropes of exes, and if you\u2019ve ever dated a Camps Bay, we\u2019re so sorry!<\/h2>\n

South Africa (23 April 2025) \u2014 <\/i>There are few things better than finally being over a break-up and being able to look back\u2014rose-tinted lenses removed at last\u2014with humour. The fights that once seemed so big are now laughable, the confusing antics are comedy, and all the nonsense that once was the norm is now a meme you can quietly chuckle about in the sanctuary of your peace. Recently, we found ourselves cry-laughing at the accuracy of a travel blogger\u2019s humour\u2014a batch of content dubbed \u2018If South African destinations were your ex\u2019.<\/p>\n

With inspiration from other creators in tow, travel blogger Lauren Melnick (@thewanderlustmovement) attributed some of South Africa\u2019s best-known destinations to different tropes of exes\u2014and if you\u2019ve ever dated a Camps Bay, we\u2019d like to formally apologise for all the headaches you endured.<\/p>\n

Per Lauren, here\u2019s who your ex would be if they were a South African destination or Cape Town neighbourhood:<\/p>\n

Camps Bay:<\/h4>\n

\u201cHot. Empty. Emotionally about as deep as a puddle on a sunny day. Sys he\u2019s \u201cnot like the other guys\u201d, but still make you hike. Will cheat on you and make you pay for parking.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Drakensberg:<\/h4>\n

\u201cSpiritual. Grounded. Took you on hikes to \u201cconnect\u201d then ghosted you to do ayahuasca in Peru.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Durban:<\/h4>\n

\u201cVibes only. Zero ambition. Still lives with his mom and thinks \u2018going with the flow is a personality.<\/em>But he can cook.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Hout Bay:<\/h4>\n

Hot and feral with a dash of family drama. Grew mushrooms. Had a weird obsession with his dog. Told you he is \u201canti-establishment\u201d but lives in a gated estate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Llandudno:<\/h4>\n

\u201cGorgeous. But emotionally cold and hard to reach. Literally. Like, there is no Uber. Only texts you at sunset. You thought it was intimacy. It was just good lighting.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Mpumalanga<\/h4>\n

\u201cGave \u2018soft life\u2019 at first. But also? No signal. No communication. Just vibes and vibes alone.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Plettenberg Bay:<\/h4>\n

\u201cPretty. Fun. Cheated on you with his ex over New Years.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Stellenbosch:<\/h4>\n

\u201cRich. Pretentious. Pretends to read. Took you wine tasting one and quotes Nietzsche unironically.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
