Not only is World Disco Soup Day a real celebration, it\u2019s also a pretty powerful one! Here\u2019s what the unique celebration is all about and why you might want to make the most of it:<\/h2>\n

Global (25 April 2025) \u2014 <\/i>Yes, World Disco Soup Day is a real thing. No, it\u2019s not about soup eaten out of disco-inspired cutlery (although we\u2019re not saying that you can\u2019t do this if you feel called to). Here\u2019s what the unique celebration is all about and why you might want to make the most of it!<\/p>\n

Many moons ago (9 years ago, to be precise), a group in Berlin launched World Disco Soup Day for the first time. They were Slow Food Youth Network, and they had a penchant for groovy tunes and feeding as many people as possible while promoting conversations surrounding food waste.<\/p>\n

By cooking dishes from food scraps and enjoying the process of learning and being together, fighting food waste and having a helluva time doing it. The first \u2018Disco Soup\u2019 fed 8,000 people, and since then, it\u2019s grown into a movement that the world\u2019s become inspired by.<\/p>\n

The first World Disco Soup Day observed in South Africa (that we know of) happened in 2018 thanks to Nosh\u2014the middleman between retail food waste, farmers and the people in our country who desperately need nourishing meals.<\/p>\n

This year, World Disco Soup Day is being celebrated on 26 April (Saturday), and everyone who wants to get groovy for a cause is invited to participate!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all going down at Ejaradini @ Culinary Passions School of Hospitality, 32 Corgi Place, Austin View, Midrand, from 10 am.<\/p>\n

Here, the goal is all about raising awareness about both food waste and food security, as well as meeting others who share sentiments of \u2018food for good\u2019.<\/p>\n

You will need to bring your dancing shoes, an apron, a knife and cutting board and any food or pantry staples which would otherwise go to waste.<\/p>\n
