Durban, South Africa (09 May 2025)<\/em> – South Africans are a playful bunch. Even when it comes to serious matters, you can bet on us to find a light-hearted side to things!<\/p>\n A little over a week ago, the Europeans experienced something we know all too well \u2013 prolonged power cuts!<\/p>\n Last week, a major blackout affected mainland Portugal and the peninsular Spain, where electric power was interrupted for about ten hours in most of the Peninsula and longer in some areas.<\/p>\n Now, while this is no laughing matter, back here in Mzansi, power outages happen far too often (whether by surprise or schedule). So much so that we\u2019ve even become self-claimed \u201cexperts\u201d on survival tips of how to get by when the lights go out.<\/p>\n Sharing his funny tips with our friends in Spain and Portugal after being hit by what he calls \u201cSouth Africa\u2019s greatest export: Loadshedding\u201d, was comedian Sed Pillay<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the video<\/a>, Sed jokes about how the Europeans could navigate these troubled times, by firing up the braai as an alternative to the stove, always having a candle handy for those dark bathroom trips, and even stocking up on some water because:<\/p>\n \u201cWell, my friends, first they will take your electricity, but soon the water cuts will come, so stock up now.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n He couldn’t resist ending the video by throwing silly jabs at Portugal for its small Nando’s pieces (even though he knows it’s not really from there) and at Spain for winning the World Cup on our shores back in 2010.<\/p>\n Check out all the banter below:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n A post shared by Sed Pillay (@sedpillay)<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
