Just ahead of one of South Africa\u2019s biggest football moments, the brand took a step back from the goals and glory to pay tribute to the women behind the scenes… the mothers who raised champions.<\/p>\n

This Mother\u2019s Day, Carling released a powerful new video across its digital platforms, turning the spotlight onto the hearts and homes where true greatness begins. As part of its ongoing Champion Moms<\/strong> initiative, the brand partnered with two players from Soweto\u2019s iconic football clubs, Mduduzi Shabalala and Thalente Mbatha, to honour their mums in a way that\u2019s deeply personal and incredibly moving.<\/p>\n

Before Mduduzi wore the Amakhosi jersey, he was a young kid with a ball and a dream. His mother remembers how that dream first began to show itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe bought him so many shoes. But there were always holes in them,\u201d she recalls. \u201cThat\u2019s how we knew \u2014 wherever he was, he was playing football. That\u2019s where it all began.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For Thalente\u2019s mother, her son\u2019s journey was marked by a name that carried meaning from the very beginning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they asked me what I would name him, I just said Thalente,\u201d she says. \u201cI don\u2019t know why. I think it was my way of manifesting that he would be talented.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

These reflections form part of a heartfelt digital tribute that blends quiet, personal moments with words that resonate across generations. In one scene, Mduduzi surprises his mother at home:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you doing here?\u201d she asks. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI came to visit you,\u201d he replies. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Her response is brief but full of history.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you so much for everything you have done for the family. I love you.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love you very much,\u201d Mduduzi answers.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A similar moment unfolds between Thalente and his mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs it really you?\u201d she asks with disbelief. \u201cI am very proud of you and the person you have become.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

To which he replies: \u201cYou are my champion too, Ma. I love you.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
