A vulnerable new mom found herself alone, cold and in urgent labour at home. Fortunately, her cries of distress led concerned neighbours to alert the police. What followed was an incredible display of officers working together to help her safely deliver her precious bundle of joy.<\/h2>\n

Upington, South Africa (15 May 2025)<\/em> – \u00a0Few things compare to the mixture of excitement, fear and nervousness (and discomfort) that an expectant woman feels when it is time to give birth to the little life that has been growing and developing inside her for months.<\/p>\n

It is a significantly vulnerable time, and more than anything, a mom in labour needs all the comforting reassurance that everything will work out just fine at the end of it all.<\/p>\n

One new mom in Upington received this comfort from an unexpected team of compassionate hearts, the SAPS police!<\/p>\n

Found alone and distressed in her home in labour on her couch on Tuesday, 13 May, police members hurriedly attended to help with the delivery of her baby, which was already underway.<\/p>\n

According to SAPS<\/a>, members Sergeant Sehano Khalaki and Sergeant Thabo Kgomojong attended to a complaint after two women reported personally to a SAPS administration building about a woman who was screaming hysterically at one of the nearby residences and didn\u2019t know what the situation was.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe two members responded to the complaint, and upon arrival, they heard a woman screaming. They opened the door, and they found a woman on the couch giving birth. The baby was crying, and they both were weak and cold,\u201d a statement said.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sergeant Khalaki assisted the woman while Sergeant Kgomojong went for help.<\/p>\n

The District Commissioner of ZF Mgcawu Major General Monica Sebili praised the members of Lime Acres for their act of empathy by assisting the mother who was later transported to the hospital for further assistance along with her new bundle of joy.<\/p>\n

Witnessing our men and women in blue going above and beyond to help those in vulnerable situations is not only heartwarming but also restores our faith in the officers who are genuinely committed to serving and protecting our communities, even during the most unexpected times.<\/p>\n
