Sprinting teen sensation Bayanda Walaza didn&#8217;t just win the 100m race at the Boris Hankezovic Memorial in Zagreb; he smashed his own national junior record while setting a new one that will certainly be hard to beat!<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>Sports Park Mladost, Zagreb (26 May 2025) &#8211; <\/i>I think it\u2019s safe to say that sprinting teen sensation Bayanda Walaza is solidifying his position as a global force and breaking history with every race he runs!<\/p>\n<p>In a stunning display of raw power and undeniable talent, this past Saturday, Walaza powerfully shattered yet another record at the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/WorldAthletics\/videos\/1398097881382313\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boris Hankezovic Memorial<\/a> in Zagreb, clocking in at 9.94 seconds in the 100m!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FWorldAthletics%2Fvideos%2F1398097881382313%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Not only is this the fourth fastest time ever recorded by a South African and a new national junior record, but it also marks the breaking of his very own national U20 record of 9.99, which he set in Tshwane in March.<\/p>\n<p>Walaza finished well clear of German sprinter Owen Ansah, who took second place in Zagreb in 10.20, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewn.co.za\/2025\/05\/25\/bayanda-walaza-flies-to-the-finish-line-in-zagreb-sets-new-sa-u20-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EWN<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The incredible feat comes after the incredible gold win at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodthingsguy.com\/sport\/watch-simbine-leads-south-africa-to-world-relay-glory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Athletics Relays<\/a> in Guangzhou, China, in which Walaza was a part of the team that delivered a world-leading time of 37.61 seconds in the men\u2019s 4x100m relay.<\/p>\n<p>This 19-year-old athlete has been on a meteoric rise since he first caught our attention last year when he made the 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodthingsguy.com\/sport\/bayanda-walaza-sprint-success-olympic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SA Olympic team<\/a>, where he went on to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodthingsguy.com\/sport\/medalist-bayanda-walaza-heartwarming-welcome-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clinch silver<\/a> in the 4&#215;100 metres relay race. He further won gold in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodthingsguy.com\/sport\/bayanda-walaza-dominates-world-athletics-u20-championships-and-secures-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U20 World Athletics Champs<\/a> and has shattered just about every record in his midst!<\/p>\n<p>Walaza&#8217;s success on the international stage provides an inspiring example of how talent can be cultivated and dreams can be realised.
