Buhle Dlamini, a devoted mother of four-year-old twins and a hardworking domestic worker in Pinetown, had opened up to her employer-turned-sister, Sherees Dalton, about the physically painful, financially burdensome and overall life-altering reality of being diagnosed with aggressive cervical cancer in February.<\/p>\n

In her hour of need, Sherees has been more than just a considerate employer, but Buhle’s source of strength and support.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s become a sister. The sister I never had,\u201d says Sherees.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cWe share our lives. We trust each other. When she told me what she was going through, I knew I couldn\u2019t just stand by.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
With Buhle\u2019s father also battling blood cancer, and with little family support around her, the emotional and financial weight has been immense.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe carries so much on her own,\u201d says Sherees.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cAnd if Buhle isn\u2019t here, her twins will be orphaned. That\u2019s the reality.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Before Buhle can receive any treatment, she needs a cone biopsy to determine how far the cancer has spread. From there, she may need a hysterectomy and further specialised care. But until the funds are raised, her journey remains on hold.<\/p>\n
Wanting to do more than offer words, Sherees turned to action by launching a BackaBuddy campaign, Miracles for Buhle, <\/em>to raise R60,000 for the urgent medical treatment, surgery, and transport costs Buhle needs to start her recovery.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s one of the most hardworking, honest people I\u2019ve ever met,\u201d Sherees says.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cShe works multiple jobs without complaint. But this isn\u2019t something she can do alone\u2014she needs a community to carry her now.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The crowdfunding campaign has already been well-received, with just over R3,300 raised from 16 generous donors. And while in need of further support, the messages and small acts of kindness are already making a difference.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo the people who have donated\u2014even R20\u2014you\u2019ve made me feel like I\u2019m not alone,\u201d says Buhle.<\/span><\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t find the words to thank you.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Buhle’s wish is simple:<\/p>\n
\u201cI just want to live long enough to raise my children. That\u2019s all I want. That\u2019s what I\u2019m fighting for.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
