Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski have a dream: to rid the ocean of all litter. While this might seem like an insurmountable goal, they\u2019re taking it head-on.<\/h2>\n

Global (03 January 2016)<\/em> – They\u2019ve created something called the Seabin, which is to be placed in harbours, yacht clubs, and other marinas where the water is relatively still. With the power of a pump, water flows into the contraption, taking debris and pollutants with it. The solid trash is caught in a mesh basket, while the water flows back into the ocean, but not before passing through a purifying filter.<\/p>\n

While it might seem like a Seabin scattered here and there throughout the world wouldn\u2019t make a huge difference, every little bit counts. When you see how much garbage just one bin can collect, you\u2019ll become more conscious of how much garbage is out there, and we\u2019ll hopefully work harder to change our ways. It really is incredible how horribly we treat the oceans and other bodies of water, which take up 71 percent of the planet we live on.<\/p>\n

“The Seabin is more efficient than a marine worker walking around with a scoop net. By working with these marinas, ports and yacht clubs we can locate the seabin in the perfect place and mother nature brings us the rubbish to catch it. Sure we can’t catch everything right now but its a really positive start.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The hope is that the plastic collected in Seabins will go toward creating more Seabins, which will then collect more pollution\u2026 and so on and so forth. Can you imagine swimming in a sea completely free of garbage? The fish would certainly be happier\u2026 and, in turn, we\u2019d be healthier from eating cleaner fish! What goes around comes around.<\/p>\n
