The Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital took in a baby porcupine, also known as a porcupette, which was rescued in Diepsloot.<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 December 2020)<\/em> – Gideon’s Animal Outreach<\/a> is a non-profit welfare organisation working in Johannesburg. Gideon was called to Diepsloot to collect a rather odd animal. When he arrived, he found himself looking into the eyes of a tiny porcupine.<\/p>\n

Gideon knew the best place for the porcupette was at the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Hospital as they specialise in treating indigenous wildlife. He dropped the porcupette off at the Fourways Vet where it was then sent to the wildlife hospital.<\/p>\n

“A short while ago, we received a baby Cape porcupine (Hystrix africaeaustralis) from Fourways Vet Hospital. After Gideon\u2019s animal outreach received the porcupine from a concerned member of the Diepsloot community, the little porcupine is now in our care.<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon admittance, we noticed that she appeared to have sun burn, as well as bite marks. We aren’t too sure what conditions she was kept in prior to her retrieval, or what she endured, however, she is on the mend. She loves her special milk formula, and has a feisty personality even though she is still so young! We are so grateful to Gideon for rescuing the little porcupine!”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
